Boat Wine Village, Tabuaço
The wine-growing village of Barcos is a very old land. Whoever observes its old houses on the Calvário site, next to the Chapel of Santa Bárbara, will see that the settlement was organized primarily around the church. The Igreja Matriz, of Romanesque foundation, perhaps from the 14th century, features iconography and Romanesque elements on its façades.
Boats is an old Portuguese parish in the municipality of Tabuaço, district of Viseu, with an area of 9.81 km² and 592 inhabitants (2011). Its population density was 60.3 inhab / km². Is Douro wine village.
It was the seat of the municipality, between 1263 and 1855, integrating the parishes of Adorigo, Barcos, Santa Leocádia and Santo Adrião. With the arrival of administrative reforms of liberalism, the parishes of Folgosa, Vila Seca, pine trees and the Figueira valley ended up also being integrated into the municipality.
There is no mention of the Parish of Barcos without mentioning the Sanctuary of Santa Maria do Sabroso and the Igreja Matriz. Important landmarks in the municipality's architectural and religious heritage. But other architectural examples can be visited in this parish: the Casa da Roda and palaces of influential families in the parish are worthy of appreciation.
